Jean-Paul Daumen Côtes-du-Rhône 2021: natural red, really light and easy to drink. more watery for a red but good to drink on its own. i wouldn't pair w red meat
LE GROLLEAU NOIR La Grange aux Belles 2021: really dry, smooth, watery, fruity. not my favorite but it has a bit of a kick to it. not an extremely pronounced note either, just a standard glass with a bit of a dry residue at the end.
Babiole 2022 | Domaine Andréa Calek: someone at the bar bought a bottle of this and shared it with me... so kind. well balanced red, a touch of acidity, i would destroy a bottle of this with a meal ngl
Domaine Luc et Denis Lattard - VDF Syrah 2020: almost a salty red? lol i don’t know how to describe this - it’s still fruity but it has a weird scent to it, almost like a warm biscuit. the heaviness of the red still lingers but this tastes like a familiar afternoon snack. also can definitely feel the acidity but it’s still buttery. im not sure i would endorse a full bottle of this but definitely a good pairing for a sharp cheese.
2010 R. Lopez de Heredia Vina Tondonia Reserva: one of the best reds ive had with a meal. this taught me what full-bodied actually means lol, an uncle from hong kong picked this for us and it was just so easy to drink and paired incredibly with lamb. wth! delicious!!! this lunch together also made me realize how i am such a #noob at winepicking and it feels awesome to know that there is so much to learn over my lifetime of drinking funny fermented beverages. i love human civilization!
Le Chat Botté Rouge Bourbon 2022: quebec wine except made in american bourbon oak barrels so there's a hint of vanilla-y alongside the iconic strong quebec cherry notes. a little sweeter than i typically enjoy for a red but that is just standard for quebec wines in general. acidic and somewhat dry!
Château de Cartes Piquette Rouge 2021: this is actually really interesting. really light natural red, very fruity, described as “crackling” because of the carbonation. it has a really interesting after taste and texture is SUPER “crackly” in a good way. undeniably refreshing lol would recommend trying it. sediment is funny, natural wine fr
L'antidote – Vin de Pays de la Sainte-Baume – 2022: got served cold and it’s very tannicky! Behariful dark red, great after taste and smooth finish. Extremely oaky and beginning tang! would recommend this on a cold night in a warm restaurant
Weingut Weninger 'Ponzichter' 2022: unmemorable light red
Cantina Sociale della Vernaccia 'Maimone' Cannonau di Sardegna 2020: extremely salty, kinda smells like ear wax
Bariou & Bodet - 'Vignes D' Ys VDF Red (Cab Franc) 2021: Like veggies. Like icy delicious veggie drinks but in a red wine form. So interesting that I had to get a whole glass
Clotilde Legrand Saumur-Champigny Les Terrages 2019: extremely tannicky, very strong initial taste and completely fades after, strong acidity. would probably not get this again
NERO D’AVOLA ’21, Barone di Serramarrocco, Sicilia: very strawberry forward and tannicky, cool after feeling and taste!! I enjoyed this for a red meat
VENTOUX (CÔTES DU VENTOUX) CLOS DE TRIAS (Unknown Year… I should call lol): really deep licorice, surprisingly low acidity, good tanickness and it’s just a really great sipper if you’re craving a dark red. Genuinely delicious!!
Casa Santos Lima Bons-Ventos Lisboa: overall somewhat balanced if not a bit acidic, a little watered (not too much depth/tannic which i usually prefer for reds) but still very drinkable in itself, clear notes of other fruits. I think it’s not a bad choice at all and I assume it’s very budget friendly
Cab/Merlot, Ktima Biblia Chora (Greek): really tannicky but feels like just a regular cab
Agiorgitiko, Ktima Driopi (Greek): sweeter, lighter and really fruity. Strong alcohol flavour though but doable, still tannicky
Maratheftiko/Mavro, Plakota, Vouni Panayia Winery (Greek): really fruity and a lot lighter than expected, still pleasant but not outstanding
Mavrodaphne/Agiorgitiko, Oenofilos, Parparoussis (Greek) : really buttery, still tannic but notes of some kind of nut or fig
Heinrich Naturtalent Zweigelt & Blaufränkisch(AC): this is actually an interesting red - something I wouldn’t have expected from an air Canada wine. Very deep, almost salty red yet it’s not that tannicky which caught me off guard. It’s like the great qualities of a dark red except with none of the texture (which I actually enjoy so this is a negative). Overall, this was a really good red… a hint of spice is just pretty awesome and it’s something new!
Trius Gamay Noir (AC): straight off the bat this is a very tannic heavy red, it’s strong and acidic at the start but you know what? The aftertaste is incredibly rich and remiscent of chocolate. What a terrible start and an incredible finish. The description of this wine is totally off IMO. The general taste and texture is mediocre but I must say this is special in the way that I loved exhaling the air I breathed afterwards bc it really impacted my olfactory chocolatey senses. Wouldn’t buy a bottle of this tho lol
Fincas Valdemacuco Roble (AC): full bodied as hell but fuck if these tannins don’t literally jump out from the start. It’s strong. like I am not sure how I could drink this without a hamburger or something because this shit screamed Dark Red Wine all the way down. Can you tell I have gotten quite drunk from drinking these glasses on this AC flight? But yes…. This is not a drinking a bottle alone wine. This is a steak dinner wine and ngl I really don’t eat much beef nowadays.
Parajes del valle, mouastrell jumillo DOP: surprisingly light and balanced! Very easy to drink, higher acidity but pleasant. Great flavour for how light it feels. Great wine would get it again!
Hautes piste pinot noir 2022: wow! Really light and refreshing, great afternotes and it’s just bright. great bottle to sip on with my parents.
les darons languedoc jeff carrel 2021: great wine, good smelling, extremely strong fruit notes and crisp for a red. has a tannic feel on the way but pleasant aftertaste. i really enjoyed this for the price point and my parents also said “not a bad choice at all, arielle!”
paul mas vignobles rouge 2020 (AC): wow. surprinsgly pleasant for an air canada wine LOL. i thoroughly enjoyed this although it was very chilled. good tanic notes, not too acidic at all, very easy to drink - buttery and smooth, almost a bit citrus-sy! i really liked it.
Domaine Ferrandière Le Grand Vin Rouge 2020 (AC): damn this is really good too. it’s smooth, slightly acidic with the tannins but not overwhelming, leaves a really good aftertaste that is floral and fresh. texture is great. how is this air canada? very great budget wine, might be a go-to for a red to eat with… fun colour too.
Cannonball 2020 Cab Sauv: dry, tannicky, little bit of acidity. Great pair with a red meat but might be a bit tough on its own. Overall not that bad, not a strong fruit note
2010 Chateau Caronne Ste Gemme Haut-Medoc: deep red, great tannins, good scent, oaky as hell! delicious red for a steak
2011 Kistler 'Kistler Vineyard' Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir: a super sweet, bouncy red. Not a lot of tannins at all; just almost a white with red flavour if that makes sense? Light and slightly bubbly, a delicious crisp red on its own. Very good and qq.
Taft Street Sonoma County Merlot 2021: tannins are so good!! I really like this. Crisp and warm. Yum. Delicious.
Cesca Vicent - Priorat 2019: less tanniny, perfectly sweet and balanced. Yum. Wow. I really like this too!!
Pas de Problème, Pinot Noir (2022): very bright and fruity! Acidic, a little forgettable. Wouldn’t get it again methinks.
Michel Sarrazin et Fils Bourgogne Pinot Noir 2022: berry forward, round tasting, delicious Pinot noir!
Le Salare - Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Collemorino 2022: kinda boring. Extremely good value tho. Michael says it reminds him of airplane wine. Falls pretty flat with no outstanding notes.
Zlatan Otok Plavac: salty, sea breeze! Really interesting profile. Yummy! It’s a little spiced and strong tannins.
Protocolo Vino de la Tierra de Castilla Tinto 2021: pretty mid ass wine in every category. Not super standout for taste, not dry, not wet, no big notes. Not great and wouldn’t try again
Compta Ovules Penedes Tinto: interesting - really woody, earthy. Smells great. Still a slight bit of acidity but not too bad. Okay mouthfeel. Would get again but not my all time favorite, just a Decent red.
Chateau Ste. Michelle Indian Wells Cabernet Sauvignon 2020: strong, acidic, bold and deep. I don’t like this that much. It tastes like a deep purple. I think it’s just really acidic with not a lot of flavour - almost watery? not my favorite!!!
Ciacci Piccolomini d'Aragona Toscana Rosso: this was below mid. acidic and just didnt go down well for me ngl. did not meet my expectations of a red.
Zeni Soave Classico Vigne Alte: it’s kinda… salty??? It kinda tastes like meat afterwards. What is going on
Melovivo Frappato: I TASTE THE TEA IN THIS! “White pepper on the finish” this is a delicious chilled red. Very yummy!
San Guglielmo Rosso Di Montalcino: really strong taste! Irony sensation !!! So bright!!!! I really like this. tangy!!!!
Angeline pinot noir 2022: light tannins, a little sweet and not too acidic. No body LOL. A really boring pinot. “Incredible mid” - noemma
Mark west pinot noir 2022 - it’s warm, cinnamony, tastes like fall, but also no body LOL. I like this for a cold autumn night
Altos iberico crianza 2018: wow! So cheap! I picked this up at the airport for 8.50 and it didn’t disappoint. I love these reds from rioja. Just younger tannins, warm, and a hint of spice! I think it’s a bit more acidic than I’d like but can’t go wrong for $8
Cerro Chapeu Tannat Reserva - 2021: tannin forward and dry, kinda tastes like an upscale bag wine. Not very great
Château Les Hauts D'Aglan Cahors 2018: very round and young red. cute malbec but whatevs
Hacienda lopez de haro rioja crianza 2020: I think this is one of my favorite regions for reds. This is on the younger side - good balance of acidity and tannins, a really delightful after taste, fragrant! I think I def like a bit more aging but for $13 usd a bottle I really enjoyed it :)
Casa Ferreirinha - Papa Figos Vinho Tinto 2021: young, juicy and bright red. A bit too acidic for my taste but note that Michael likes this.
Bonny Doon 2021 Le Cigare Volant: smells great! Really dry and tanniny, a bit acidic. Not sure if I could drink a full bottle but was yummy for a dip
Paitin Bonina | Langhe Freisa 2021: really dry tannics again. Like the bonny but on steroids.
R. Lopez de Heredia Vina Cubillo Crianza 2016: splurged again to get my favorite (somewhat mass/avail) producer from rioja - michaels birthday! really great “young” rioja (2016? this is 8 years old arielle). It’s extremely bright and feels super nice in da mouth. Opens up and has beautiful light tannins! A slight bit of acidity that is instantly mellowed. Notes of bright red berries lelelelalaal. SUPER OAKY!!! almost like a vanilla oak. Yummyyyy
Le More Bianche Langhe Nebbiolo 2023: ok yeah I get the hype. Lightly bubbly, dry tanniny, so smooth and delicious. The texture is something I’ve never experienced before in a wine!!!! I really enjoyed this glass on the side of the street in Italy.
IL Pingro Rosso Toscana (Sangiovese): wow! it’s giving Tuscany ocean… chilled red, incredibly light and yet a touch bit salty. What an awesome glass of red. This is something you drink by itself. Stunnnnninggggg. So full bodied and red fruity… reminds me of natural reds in Montreal :)
Chianti classico lamole di lamole 2021: yeah this is Chianti to its core hahaha. This was actually my entrance into wine regions. This is good, it’s the exact dry/crispness of dark reds I like but you can tell this is a pretty baby grape. Some aging on this bad boy would be nuts but u can’t complain for this price point (although I think I drastically overpaid for a glass). Good!
Nebbiolo Langhe DOC 2020 - Azienda Agricola Malvira: dry, kinda chianti esque. not too stand outish, might be better if it was colder? I think this could be a miss but it’s not terrible, but not great compared to the first nebbiolo i tried. a little more the acidic side and leave a bit of tang in your mouth. A lil rounded but still dry. Not terrible either - def better than most reds but still kinda mid compared to my first
Villa Antinori Rosso igt: Cab sauv/merlot/sangiovese/verdot/syrah blend from toscano. what is going on. : acidic and difficult
2018 El Andén de la Estación, Tempranillo Granada, Bodega Mugas Rioja: man another banger. Makes me pucker in a great way and just not acidic. 2018 is a good year to be in rioja
2020 Barbera d’Alba Piani DOC. Pelissero Azienda Agricola, Piemont: compared to the rioja this falls short - great flavour but much more acidic. Dark fruits and good tannins. In all ways a good wine but god, hard to follow my fav region. Not even that acidic but in comparison !!!
Terrazze Dell’etna Carusu Etna: it’s definitely tanniny. It’s kinda flavourless? It is like a pinot noir with more water. Forgettable. It’s like something you chug and forget about because it’s light.
Umberto Cesari Sangiovese Tauleto 2017: good, it’s strong but balanced! Good tannins and I actually get a hint of pepper here. Who am I? LOL
Mythique, Syrah Grenache: swiss air red wine. surprisingly good - i guess that makes sense when you’re not getting served canadian wine lol. young grape, has a bit of acidity which i dont appreciate but it’s okie. notes of ripe berries and a whiff of vanilla body cream lmao. not bad, great for an airplane wine.
Langhe Nebbiolo 2021 batasiolo: really light red, feels acidic but it’s not. Not my favorite wine. It caught me a bit off guard and I just don’t like it. Very tannin heavy too… after ~30 mins this wine started opening up and it became a lot more tolerable. it was good! but i dont think i’d get this again. that natural nebbiolo from le more ruined me
paul mas rouge 2021 (AC): ah! this one is a bit more acidic than the 2020 but it’s still pretty good for airplane wine lol. same notes as before except it’s a bit more punchy with the acid which… u know i dont love but can’t complain. imagine drinking a stellar wine in the air though. that would be nuts. this is just mediocrely good enough for the airplane.
Chateau de le gardine 2011: woah. Kinda tastes like Chinese cough medicine in a good wine alcoholic way. that’s the sweetness behind it. It’s so herbally. Really bold flavour and perfect aging on this. Feeling lucky to be drinking this, so special!
Tom gore Cab Sauv 2021: acidic and burning. what da hell. Peak budget Chinese wedding mood
Azienda Agricola Brigaldara Valpolicella 2022: extremely light red. Notes of strong fruit, but it’s dry, and also there’s kinda a spicy after taste? so interesting!!!
Chionetti Dolcetto Briccolero 2020: really delicious tanniny dark red, surprising that it’s so good when it’s a young 2020. Really big flavour. Not sure if worth the price. Maybe it is.
oranges
Parajes del Valle Orange Ecológico 2021: this might as well have been a white. really, really light and flat taste. i honestly did not enjoy this as much as other oranges i've had
MR & MRS THÉO GINGER 2021: in-your-face dry for an orange! really caught me off guard!!! it’s not that sweet either and had an interesting texture too - almost gritty? i actually do not think i would enjoy a whole bottle of this but it was a fun glass.
Agricola Virà Catarratto, Terre Siciliane 2022: light and dry, but sweet (there’s a mix of chardonnay in here). i don’t think i could drink a whole bottle of this ngl. it’s not out of the world - it is just a standard one note orange but the colour is also beautiful! it got really boring really fast and the dryness also did not help its case.
Terra Ambera Amphora 2022: super floral orange!!! this was so good holy shit!!!!!!!! i would totally drink this like an earl grey tea. i could easily down a bottle of this.
Tragolargo Moscatel - Malvasia: a very aromatic, fruity orange! this has a deeper aroma to it - when i exhale it kinda feels like there are extended spices to it. it is the same feeling that i imagine drinking a really well-brewed broth does except cold and in wine form. i would pair this with a light cheese.
Skin contact fabien jouves: tastes like the skin of a peach/apricot variety - not biased by the name I swear, almost like appley, muscat-note “pulpy” in a flavour way? very delicious and fruity.
Gewürztraminer Swick 'The Flood' 2022: really early harvest muscat, very easy to drink bc it was not very there (lol), johnny says it tastes like a flat, mediocre/suoermaeket champagne
Phoenix Skin-Contact Merwah 2022: very refreshing, tastes almost apple cidery with a hint of white wine! not a lot of residue bubbles - quite still. Great after-texture. A bit pricey but still a good choice for a drink on its own.
Les Vins de Barbichette, Nuit Blanche: really bright, citrusy, sparkling notes at the end. Almost tea like? What an interesting orange. Really juicy and just fun! Pungent on the nose when you drink. Would recommend. made specially for thai diner in new york
roses
GRAPEREPUBLIC Rosato 2021: really light… refreshing, like smooth and easy to drink but it’s on the dryer side and the mouth feel is a bit bubbly. it’s also more muscatty than any other kind of rose wine i’ve had but not as much as the bianco. VERY interesting for a rose!
Camaïeu Pet Nat, 2021. 1006 Chai Urbain (Pauline Lair): really light and refreshing. it is a naturally bubbly rose with notes of raspberry and cranberry, very palatable and easy to drink. a bit on the pricier side but it was delicious nonetheless!
Myrko Tépus Dai! 2021: really light and quite flavourful… rounded, almost! very good rose, also easy to drink by the glass - not sure what i would pair with but great to drink on its own
Les Haute Plateaux: really floral, kinda a cheap rose ngl. Not my fave. Kinda acidic. What I would recommend to a college girl trying to be fancy
Menegotti Bardolino Chiaretto: really sweet. I also don’t like this but it’s better than the other rose. It just lacks everything good in a wine I think. Apparently it’s a blend of chianti 😭🙏 RIP arielle
whites
GRAPEREPUBLIC Anfora Bianco 2021: tastes like a muscat… honestly might be one of my favorite wines i’ve had. it’s a bit watery for a wine but it reminds me of drinking qoo! the wine legs are so prominent and it was just a delicious bev overall. i could finish a bottle of this in humidity.
Martin Vajčner, Sauvignon 2021: this sauv blanc is super nutty. like i can’t explain it other than it tastes like a salty, fatty wine. it’s really good. i would highly recommend this lol - it must be an insane pairing with cheese!!!
Les 2 Terres Muscadet Sèvre et Maine Sur Lie: extremely light/watery wine; if one of my friends said that they didnt like the taste of wine but still wanted to split a bottle with me, this is what I would get for them. it feels like cold water ngl, goes down super smoothly and leaves no burn whatsoever but a little fizzle at the end. great summer day wine.
Grüner Veltliner Weinvierter: very flavourful white, very strong apple-y notes with an awesome finish
Domaine Gueguen Chablis 2022: absolutely no flavour bland ass wine imo, to be fair, this followed a very strong, more-pronounced glass of the Grüner but omg this tasted like water to me LOL
ELECTRIC CHARDONNAY ACID TEST: very deliciously sweet, good bubbliness, would recommend
Domaine Tetramythos Patras Roditis Nature 2022: not as sweet on the first taste, good bubbliness, crisp… i was pretty drunk but this wasn’t my favourite compared to the electric glass i had previously
Les Vignerons du Gerland Panjas - Cotes de Gascogne: really complex but strong acidity and it’s sharp, I wouldn’t drink this again but it was not at all an unpleasant drink! I think I like milder, more single dimensional notes
VILLA SPARINA GAVI DI GAVI 2022: very light and crisp, pretty full body, not particularly stand out. it is just there.
Grove Mill Sauvignon Blanc: it’s really sweet, a little carbonation and it’s a pretty full body texture. I wouldn’t get this again but it was still fine to drink; just wayyyy too sweet but probs a nz thing
Meinklang Gruner-Veltliner Osterreich 2022: almost a cheesy smell but it’s really pleasantly crisp, also a slight carbonation and it’s definitely a ripe/preripe white! just a really tight flavour
La Cantina Vallée d’Oka Blanc 2022: very standard sauv blanc, straightforward, slightly acidic, slightly bubbly, not a stand out sauv blanc but enjoyable nonetheless. Not too sweet which I can appreciate in a sauv but i can’t taste the notes it claims it has. I think this would taste better more chilled - will report back! (update: much better cold, actually says to be served 8-10c so i played myself earlier lol)
Quinta De Soalheiro Allo (AC): really sweet, but ngl it’s kinda reminiscent of a mediocre Chardonnay in the way that the texture is thick and flat. Ngl this was kinda not great. I wouldn’t get it again but that’s because I don’t really like sweet wines like this
Couchant Les beaux Jours (AC): a little dry but wow this feels like it has no body at all. There are hints of pear but then you have to deal with the terrible feeling of it burning down your throat. Maybe I got a bad bottle on this air Canada flight but this was not that pleasant to drink. Genuinely made me pucker
Map Maker Sauv Blanc: really sweet and syruppy, tastes like a bad chard ngl, lingering feet
Chateau de Sancerre 2017: beautiful dark yellow colour, extreme deep taste and aroma, acidic but still mellow. very strong flavour so not a super easy drink but delicious for wine enjoyers. heavy on the fruit!
Whitehaven Sauvignon Blanc 2022: a little bit on the sweeter side for me, it’s tangy and leaves a syruppy note after. not that big of a fan but it’s easy to drink and it’s not overly on the fruity side, just sweet.
ZIND-HUMBRECHT Muscat Turckheim 2020: so crisp, bouncy, and appley! Super well rounded and balanced. Tangy smooth finish. The bar compared it to “the most perfect bite of a perfectly ripe, fridge-cold ambrosia apple.” and I think that’s somewhat accurate. Would recommend!
2010 Kistler Dutton Ranch Chardonnay: man this is just way too good. It called me broke over and over. Insanely deep colour and great depth, doesn’t hurt at all with no acidity going down, the after breaths are so rich and decadent and nutty . This is a beautiful wine to drink 2010
2011 Kistler Hudson Vineyard Chardonnay: lighter than the previous, it’s a bit more acidic and not as acidic and depthy as the other. Still an incredible wine but wow! Fun to see how different same brands can be (diff vineyards and years). So acorny… i do like the other more but omg so delicious. I’m a wine gorlie. Even the colour is lighter!
Pasini San Giovanni Il Lugana 2020: tastes like Kim Crawford sauv blanc. Similar fruit forward white. Funky bottle, not my favourite
Martin Vajčner - Ryzlink Rýnský: i’m going to be annoying about this one. See - Vajcner’s wine has been my wild sheep chase over the last year. I had an insane glass of his sauv blanc 21 in a bar in Montreal and I’ve been chasing that high ever since. I’ve gone to countless specialty wine shops and have asked people to special order with me to no avail. Imagine my surprise when I found 3! of his bottles in a random wine shop in Nolita. My poor wallet cannot afford to try more (I wish I grabbed the pinot too) but I LOVE a good riesling and this may be the closest I get to that sauv. You can find more about the way he manages his vineyard land here. This riesling still has that beautiful nuttiness that comes from the barrels he uses. There are light bubbles on every sip. It’s dry and a beautiful colour!!! above all, this is SO minerally. This is the kind of wine that actually transports you to the ground it’s grown on. Really, really delicious. at the end of the bottle, there was a mountain of minerals left on my glass. salty. yummy. Maybe the best riesling I’ve had (but I’ve only had a handful!). Happy to have tried it! I think I still am chasing that sauv though.
Underwood Pinot Gris Oregon: this is shit. Woody and strong alc taste. terrible. blegh. thanks oregon… FOR NOTHIN
Candia Canavese | Piemonte ; Erbaluce di Caluso Primavigna 2022: pretty good! very nutty… i enjoyed it. i drank 2 glasses
Great White grand vin de France: this taste like airplane wine in the worst way. There’s a sea water aftertaste. What is wrong with the French? somehow can’t find this bottle online but there was a whale tail on it i think. shit sucks
Cialovich Passerina Colline Pesresi: extremely sweet and bouncy. A bit too muscatty!!!! I don’t love this. The guy said it’s actually DRY and not sweet. sorry guess im an idiot?
Nekazari txakolina basque wine: it’s slightly bubbly! Really delicious! Really salty. I’m liking this!!! Kinda like a lemon curd after.
Villa locatelli sauvignon blanc: sweet, bouncy, light notes. A little bit too sweet for my preference but it’s a clearly young grape. yummy bottle to share with taryn, kevin, and rishi
Domaine pellé menetou-salon les blanchais: really yummy and tart. It was sweet in a perfect way and such a fruit forward sauv blanc! Incredible yummy!!!!
Quinta da Taboadella 2021 Villae White (Dão): a boring flat white, not that good lol
Valckenberg Gewürztraminer 2021: dry, a bit too sweet for my liking but not syrupy. Tastes like fresh young grapes. A little boring - was hoping to find a nuttier taste, but it slides well in my mouth lol. Still doesn’t compare to the other German sauv blanc I’ve been hunting for. Probably wouldn’t get again but it’s not a bad choice.
2021 Renoir Estates Winery Reserve Chardonnay: bright, acidic, has that burn-ny sweetness that I hate about California chardonnays. Wouldn’t get it again! But if you like chard this is for you.
Inama Soave Classico 2022 : pretty bland, really fresh and minerally. Probably wouldn’t reach for this again unless I just want to drink for no taste
Càmaiol Prestige - Lugana 2023: this region was recommended to me by an old Italian couple we met on the train and man. This is a sickingly sweet white wine - giving grigio without the dryness. And yet. I will drink the whole bottle on the ferry because that’s the type of day it is. Mineral sweet wine for a mineral sea sweet day.
Pinot Bianco DOC 2022 - Villa Russiz: man. This is a syruppy dry sweet typa wine. Feels like the kinda stuff my dad would like ngl but I’m not a huge fan. ….. hmm…. Halfway in suddenly this mf is smooth as hell…… ok…… what happened. still. …. not the first that comes to mind for a white
Väterchen Frost Vin Mousseux Brut: really nice cold but kinda a mid sauv. Kinda like a crisp grape - yummy, not standoutish but still ok!
Aus Den Dörfern 2022 Ross Schuster Burgenland: woah, idk if I’ve ever had a wine like this. It’s like a full bodied white somehow?? It’s like turning the volume knob really low. Really enjoyed this… it’s so like smoky but not actually smoky. And it has this tartness after that is awesome. I fear I may never have a wine like this again
Tinus pure nature blanc VdF, rhone: pretty non remarkable. colour was pretty but just kinda not good
2020 Soave Classico Inama Azienda Agricola inane, Venetia: very good. Like a little sweeter sauv blanc. Slightly bubbly, makes you pucker a bit! It’s yummy with food. Might be a little strong on its own - esp warm! Almost a little salty. Yummy
2021 Verdicchio Casal die Serra: really light, less flavour. watered down type of wine but easy to drink. Just very refreshing and bland lol. probs never again
Merveilles chasselas de romandie vin de pays: Swiss air white wine. Slightly bubbly, sweet but in a grown up way. Deep grape flavour. Also giving like a young sancerre. Not a lot of minerality. More fruity - I don’t think this is really for me but it’s not a bad wine at all!
2016 SAINT-CHINIAN BLANC Mas Champart: reminds me of a really dry version of a sancerre. deep flavour, but huge mineral finish which im not too hot on but it does it well if this is your thing! bought a bottle of this on a discount in nola with michael :) i do not think i could drink more than half a glass of this. felt like it was burning my stomach lmao
Brigaldara 2022 Garganega (Soave): pinot grigio at 100x with an insane minerality. Really steel. Not a fan
Contesa Pecorino Abruzzo (i think 2021?): reminds me of sauv blanc. Kinda steely, kinda bloody? LOL. Cross between riesling almost
desserts
Muscat De Rivesaltes, JOIA, Domaine Des Schistes: almost syrupy as a wine! i was drawn to it because of muscats but i would say it kinda gives off fermented sweet plum vibes. i would pair with something fatty. the bartender shared a pour with me.
Porto Tawny, Otima 10, Warres: oh my god this is like sweet in the way that haw candy is sweet. almost unbearable - I could not even drink a glass of this ngl but it is not for everyone, maybe you enjoy liquified haw!
Putney mountain winery of vermont, rhubarb blush 2023: sickly sweet, great smell, slight carbonation but extremely syrupy, comparable to to a dessert wine but bad
Putney mountain winery of vermont, simply pear 2023: also not that great LOL, good smell, first sip has the consistency of a syrup/oil before becoming a bit more delicate but “watered down”, not very strong notes of pear which is a bit disappointing. ironically has almost no wine legs for being so sweet.
Dow’s Port, Portugal (AC): yeah. I don’t like ports and this is not an exception but I will say it’s slightly more tolerable than most. Very plummy forwardness and it fades from my mouth fast which is a plus because ports are just disgusting to me LOL.
bulles/bruts
Zenato Spumante Metodo Classico Lugana Brut: very awesome and sweet, extremely white grape forward, and extremely carbonated in a great way - all the bubbles are super tiny and come from the middle bottom
Bottega millesimato brut (AC): wow surprisingly pleasant! Really fruity and sweet but the bubbles stand out in the middle. Not super dry but has a bit of a lingering feeling from the bubbly residue. Not sure if I’d get this again, seems like something that I would drink with OJ to make a mimosa
Champagne Moët Impérial: it’s a bit bitter, strong bubbles (big carbonation), typical champagne but def not what I would gravitate to. not my favorite lol overrated in pop culture?
Romio - Prosecco NV: run of the mill prosecco. mid but delicious in a cocktail.
J.Guillermin Cuvée Réservée Blanc de Blancs Brut: pretty whatever.
Tenuta Pederzana Lambrusco Grasparossa: wow! A sparkling red? Forward tanins, great sweetness, light bodied. What a wonderful red to share :) I love!!!!
De Pró Cava: tastes like a cheap fake champagne. Because it is. Stupid sweet and no dryness that I like in sparking whites.
Cupcake Prosseco: good for the price ngl but the first hit was so sweet. It got better as I got progressively more drunk. lol!
Costagrossa Pinot Nero Brut 2016 - Montalto: now this is a sparkling wine. Hell yea. So bubbly and light it feels like it dissolves on my tongue. Obvious taste of chard but in an unassuming way. Aw yea baby.
